If you're looking for a therapist in Branford, Madison, Guilford, or the greater New Haven area, you've probably noticed that the search can feel overwhelming. Dozens of names on directory sites, long waitlists, and no way to tell who's actually the right fit.
Here's what I can tell you about working with me: I'm direct, I'm experienced, and I don't waste your time.
I'm Eric Rice, a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 17 years of clinical experience. I've worked in agencies, nonprofits, schools, and private practice, and that range of experience has made me adaptable and practical. I'm not going to give you textbook answers. I'm going to help you figure out what's actually going on and what to do about it.
My approach is rooted in systems thinking. That means I look at the bigger picture: your relationships, your family patterns, the pressures you're under, not just your symptoms. Lasting change comes from understanding the root cause, not just putting out fires.
I'm also a husband and father of two, so when I say I understand the complexity of family life, I mean it.
For men and women dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, anger, life transitions, or just feeling stuck. Many of my individual clients are men who've never been to therapy before and wanted a male therapist they could relate to.
For couples who are struggling to communicate, recovering from infidelity, or trying to figure out whether the relationship can work. I help couples have the hard conversations in a space that's structured and safe.
For families dealing with conflict, parenting challenges, blended family dynamics, divorce and co-parenting, or a child or teen who's struggling. My systems-based approach means we work on how the family functions together, not just one person's behavior.
For people who don't need therapy but want support in setting goals, making transitions, or getting clarity about what's next.
For athletes and performers looking to build mental toughness, manage performance anxiety, and compete at their best.
My office is located at 94 North Branford Road in Branford, CT, right off I-95 at Exit 56. Clients come from all the surrounding Shoreline towns:
Branford: Right here in town, minutes from the office.
Madison: About 15 minutes east on I-95.
Guilford: About 10 minutes east on I-95.
North Branford: A quick drive down Route 139 or Route 80.
New Haven: About 15 minutes west on I-95.
East Haven: About 10 minutes via Route 1 or I-95.
Killingworth, Clinton, Westbrook: Easy access via Route 80 or I-95.
I also offer telehealth sessions for anyone located anywhere in Connecticut, so distance doesn't have to be a barrier.
I'm one of the few male therapists in the area. Only about 20% of therapists nationally are men.
Many of my clients, both men and women, specifically sought out a male therapist and tell me it made a real difference in their comfort level and progress.
I've been doing this for over 17 years. I've worked across agencies, nonprofits, schools, and private practice. Very little surprises me, and that experience means I can meet you where you are without judgment and help you move forward efficiently.
I'm a private pay practice with insurance options. I accept Optum, United Health, and Yale Health insurance, and I'm an out-of-network provider for Aetna. My private pay model means no diagnosis is required in your permanent records, your sessions aren't dictated by insurance companies, and I can focus entirely on what you need.
I'm a real person with a real life. I'm a husband, a father, a coach, and someone who understands firsthand what it's like to juggle all of it. That perspective shows up in how I work with clients every day.
Getting started is simple:
Step 1: Schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. We'll talk briefly about what brings you to therapy and whether we're a good fit.
Step 2: Complete a short intake. Just some basic paperwork before your first session.
Step 3: Come to your first session. We'll spend the time getting to know each other, understanding your situation, and mapping out a plan.
No pressure. No commitment beyond that first conversation.

Start by thinking about what matters most to you: the therapist's experience, their specialty, whether you'd prefer a male or female therapist, and whether you want in-person or telehealth sessions. Directory sites like Psychology Today can help you browse options, but the best way to know if a therapist is right for you is to schedule a consultation. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can see if it's a good fit before you commit.
Yes. My Branford office is centrally located on the CT Shoreline and easy to reach from Madison (about 15 min), Guilford (about 10 min), New Haven (about 15 min), North Branford, East Haven, and surrounding towns. I also offer telehealth for anyone in Connecticut.
A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is specifically trained to work with relationships and family systems. While I see individuals too, my training gives me a unique ability to understand how your relationships, family dynamics, and personal history all connect. This systems-based approach often leads to deeper, more lasting results.
Some people feel more comfortable opening up to a male therapist. Men often tell me they find it easier to talk to another man about things like stress, anger, relationship issues, and fatherhood. Women and couples also choose to work with me because they want a male perspective in the room. There's no right or wrong reason. What matters is that you feel comfortable with your therapist.
I accept Optum, United Health, and Yale Health insurance. I am an out-of-network provider for Aetna. For private pay clients, please call my office for current rates. A private pay model offers privacy advantages: no diagnosis required in your records and no insurance company dictating your treatment.
Yes. I offer telehealth sessions via Zoom for anyone located in Connecticut. Online sessions are HIPAA-compliant, and all you need is a reliable internet connection and a private space where you can talk comfortably.
